Minnesota Stormwater Manual

mpca-horizRetained by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), The Kestrel Design Group wrote and developed graphic content for three portions of the Minnesota Stormwater Manual, including a new section for Urban Tree Best Management Practices (BMP’s). For all facets of the project, Kestrel conducted an extensive literature review and headed a team of experts from across the country to update manual content to ensure the document is as up-to-date as possible based on current research and experience.

Kestrel was responsible for three specific sections of the manual:
* Bioretention
* Green Roofs
* Trees

Content examples:
• Updates to design, installation, and maintenance guidelines for each of the 3 BMP’s
• Extensive species lists
• Comprehensive inspection checklists
• Established appropriate categories for long-term average infiltration rates in Hydrologic Soil Groups A, B, C, and D
• Protocols for determining soil infiltration rates
• Nutrient removal credits for BMP’s
• Established credits for evapotranspiration and interception to the tree volume crediting system
• Comprehensive case studies
